Hi folks,
Myself and a friend visit the saunas in Amsterdam regularly. We don't have any such places here at home. Just wondering if there are others here who know, Deco, Keizer, Fenomen and others ? |

Spa Zuiver is a new one which opened about a year ago in Amsterdam. I've visited once and it seemed quite nice, although a little pricey. http://www.spazuiver.nl/en/home/
I've been to Sauna Deco in Amsterdam and and Sauna Van Egmond in Haarlem and I think Zuiver is the better of the three, although each have their qualities. I haven't been to any others in Amsterdam although I can give you some insight into spas around the Rotterdam and Den Haag areas.

Hey Pita,
I love Deco, it's a great sauna. Zuiver is soooo expensive 35 euro's p.p.!!! Thats not normal i think. I go every week to Fenomeen, 8 euro's and.... ok... it's just a basic sauna, but for me is a sauna a sauna _________________ Wie gaat er mee naar de sauna in Amsterdam? |

I haven't been to Fenomeen. As I said, I don't get to Amsterdam spas very often. It may be worth visiting sometime though.
Around Den Haag/Rotterdam I like Thermen Barendrecht, Elysium, Thermen Holiday adn sometimes Centre du Lac or Thermen de Hofstede . Each require somewhat of a drive. I wish there were more spas a little closer to Den Haag. Vitalzee in Schevening was very close to my work but it closed this year (it wasn't all that nice to begin with, but a great location).
I'm eager to see the new spa Thermen Holiday is opening between Leiden and Amsterdam. I have a feeling that one will be expensive as well. |

Drummer-
Our favorites aside, the Netherlands is not a big country, so while we have our local preferences it is quite easy to travel to some of the saunas outside of Amsterdam to try those. Some are quite large and very popular. We can give you some recommendations farther afield if you're interested in going beyond the confines of Amsterdam.

For some reason, all tourists know sauna Fenomeen and Deco. Is it because they are in Amsterdam?
Sauna's just a bit further away are SO much better (see Pita's post) |

There seems to be better knowledge of Fenomeen and Deco in English language reviews and the like. Probably foreigners are less likely to venture beyond central Amsterdam- this is certainly the case in Melbourne Australia with the exception of well-known tourist spots.
Spa Zuiver looks great and is near a tram line. Maybe it's expensive because the real estate costs are high so close to Amsterdam. |

I think Zuiver is expensive (in relation to other saunas) because they can ask for that price and people will pay it. Also, it is located near enough to central Amsterdam where many will use it and it is large and nice. Supply and demand!
I believe they do have some evening discounts though, so not everyone pays full price.
Overall I'm not too concerned about spa prices in Holland. For a single admission price you can spend a full day at most saunas if you want. Even if you only go to the sauna for a few hours in the evening it is probably less expensive than if you went out to dinner and had a few drinks during the same period of time (and it is probably better for you, too).
Overall I think they are a bargain. If these were popular in the US I'm sure the entry prices would be much higher. |

I usually go to Saunadrome in Putten, it has the best atmosphere imo. Veluwse Bron is also great, and very large. These sauna's take about 45min drive from Amsterdam, without a car it is more complicated.
At Saunadrome you pay about 30 euros for admission+ dinner+ drink if you take a special 'arrangement' . I usually buy a card, three admissions for 37,50 euro but these are not always available. |

Hi Folks.
Is somebody have information about Fenomeen sauna that was closed few month ago?
Will they reopen in another place or project completely closed?
I trying to find some similar small saunas with yoga. I not a big fan of sauna centers like Zuiver and prefer to visit small saunas just for fun.
Where are people moved from Fenomeen now?
Maybe you know other interesting saunas in Amsterdam?
I know only Deco, Zuiver and Sauna Van Egmond in Haarlem.
Please tell about your favorite places. |

I'm just coming home from work and so quick i do only remember one sauna with yoga facillities:
http://www.wellness1926.nl/
Otherwise the following smaller sauna's could interest you:
http://www.saunadacosta.nl/ (Amsterdam)
http://www.spacio-diemen.nl/ (Diemen)
http://www.descansa.nl/ (Utrecht City)
http://www.saunacentre.nl/ (Haarlem City)
and a (little) bit more away from Amsterdam:
http://www.spasereen.nl/C9-HOME.html (A new bigger saunacomplex situated near the border of the Maarsseveense Plas (Lake, north of Utrecht) and having a "Himalaya Seasaltstone cabine" with a Buddha statue and some eastern music on the background for the ultimate spiritual atmosphere)
http://www.thermenbussloo.nl/nl/home (bigger saunacomplex near Apeldoorn offering also various workshops and meditation sessions.
Hope this will help you.
And if you visited one of the above mentioned sauna's, you may write your experience?
Where the people and staff from Fenomeen moved to, i don't know, but may be an Amsterdam based forummember knows? In the past i used to visit the Oibibio/Oininio sauna from time to time when visiting Amsterdam. They also had a lot of spiritual facillities/courses/sessions, but unfortunately they closed down some years ago.

Thank you kevin8, your post is very helpful.
Seems wellness1926, saunadacosta and saunacentre will be interesting to me.
I hope that fenomeen will be reopened again because it was good relaxation place with nice public and stuff.
I will post reports about these saunas after visit. I hope to visit them in spring...
Once again thanks |

Re Sauna1926. It was previously called Sauna Caprice and Sauna Zeeburg. I went there back in early 2009 when it was Sauna Caprice. Nice enough small spa comprising of a steam room, a sauna(seating capacity up to about 20 people), and a small infra-red sauna unit as the main facilities. Thing is though there was hardly any other people there! I arrived there about 4:30pm that evening when there just four other people present. By 5:30pm, three of those other guests had left and then there was only one other male present. By 6:30pm that other guy had gone upstairs to the relaxation area where he stayed for quite some time, and I was then the ONLY person in the spa area for the rest of my visit! As I said, nice enough small spa. BUT just far too quiet for me. I like a bit more of a busy buzzy vibe with a good mix of other people(of both sexes) present. Don't know if it's usually like this, or I just went on one of those quiet days?
I do miss the old Sauna Fenomeen, which sadly closed 18 months ago. I along with many other fans was hoping they would have found alternate premises and re-opened by now. |
